Laparoscopy / Hysteroscopy

Modern gynecology has greatly advanced with minimally invasive procedures that allow doctors to diagnose and treat many women’s health conditions with greater precision, less pain, and faster recovery. Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy are two important procedures commonly used in gynecology to evaluate and manage a wide range of reproductive and pelvic conditions.
At our hospital, we offer advanced Laparoscopy / Hysteroscopy services with experienced gynecologists, state-of-the-art equipment, and personalized care to ensure safe, effective, and minimally invasive treatment for women.

What is Laparoscopy?

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to examine and treat organs inside the abdomen and pelvis. It is also known as keyhole surgery because it is performed through small incisions instead of a large open cut.
During laparoscopy, a thin tube called a laparoscope (with a camera and light) is inserted through a small incision in the abdomen. This allows the surgeon to view the pelvic organs on a monitor and perform surgery with specialized instruments.
Laparoscopy is commonly used in gynecology to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and surrounding pelvic structures.

What is Hysteroscopy?

Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine the inside of the uterus. A thin, lighted instrument called a hysteroscope is inserted through the vagina and cervix into the uterine cavity. This allows the doctor to directly visualize the lining of the uterus without any abdominal incision.
Hysteroscopy can be used for both diagnostic and operative purposes. It helps detect abnormalities inside the uterus and also allows treatment of certain conditions during the same procedure.

Common reasons for Laparoscopy include:

  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Endometriosis
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Fibroids (selected cases)
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Infertility evaluation
  • Tubal blockage
  • Pelvic adhesions
  • PID-related complications
  • Removal of ovarian masses

Types of Laparoscopy / Hysteroscopy

  • 1. Diagnostic Laparoscopy Used to inspect the pelvic organs and identify conditions such as endometriosis, adhesions, tubal disease, or unexplained pelvic pain.
  • 2. Operative Laparoscopy Used to treat conditions during the same procedure, such as removing cysts, treating ectopic pregnancy, releasing adhesions, or performing certain gynecological surgeries.
  • 3. Diagnostic Hysteroscopy Used to inspect the uterine cavity and diagnose abnormalities such as polyps, fibroids, adhesions, or congenital uterine defects.
  • 4. Operative Hysteroscopy Used to treat problems inside the uterus, such as removing polyps, resecting small fibroids, cutting adhesions, correcting uterine septum, or removing retained tissue.

Benefits of Laparoscopy / Hysteroscopy

These minimally invasive procedures offer several advantages over traditional open surgery:

  • Smaller or no external incisions
  • Less postoperative pain
  • Reduced blood loss
  • Lower risk of infection
  • Faster recovery
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Better visualization and precision
  • Minimal scarring
  • Early return to daily activities
  • Often allows diagnosis and treatment in the same sitting
